    Bring That Beat (State) Bak!

    December 16, 2008

    Dear Friend,

I am writing to ask for your support of my reelection campaign.

As you know, Bob McDonnell and I are running on the Republican ticket for Governor and Lieutenant Governor in 2009.  Bob McDonnell and I know how to win tough races.  We have both won every race we have entered.   Altogether, our undefeated winning record is 15-0!  With your help, we plan to continue our winning streaks in 2009.

That's why the liberals are already gunning for us.  They have recruited two Democrat candidates to run against me: a multimillionaire businessman who has already poured nearly $250,000 of his own money into his campaign, and a well-connected Norfolk lawyer, who was a high-ranking official in the Kaine administration.

Before the General Election next November our Republican Party will hold a statewide convention on May 30, 2009 to determine our nominees for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.  I need to know that I can count on your support at that convention.

I am writing to ask that you sign up to become a member of The Bolling Brigade, the grass roots organization that will carry us to victory next November.  I also need for you to plan now to attend the Republican convention next May as a Bolling delegate.  Please <http://www.billbolling.com/?page=volunteer> click here to join The Bolling Brigade.

As a member of The Bolling Brigade you will join hundreds of Republican Party leaders who have already announced their support for my campaign.  This list includes every Republican member of Virginia's congressional delegation, more than 70 Republican members of the General Assembly, almost every member of the Republican Party's State Central Committee and more than 100 local Republican county and city committee chairs.

Perhaps most significantly, the list also includes current Attorney General and 2009 gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell and all three of the Republican candidates currently seeking the GOP nomination for Attorney General, including Senator Ken Cuccinelli, former United States Attorney John Brownlee and former Arlington County School Board Chairman Dave Foster.

    Spying on my own email

    Dear DANA,

This week we announced the official theme of President-elect Obama's inauguration: "Renewing America's Promise."

You may recognize this theme. It was a vision that President-elect Obama first committed to months ago -- a vision to expand opportunity to every American, and restore America's standing around the world.

We've talked about bringing change to Washington, but now we need to live up to that pledge. That's why we're planning the most open and accessible inauguration in history.

Today, we're taking the unprecedented step of giving everyone access to the database of donors who have contributed more than $200 to the Presidential Inaugural Committee. You'll be able to search for virtually real-time information on every donor by name, employer, city or state, and find out who has bundled contributions for the committee. Take a look at our donor database:

    http://www.pic2009.org/donors <http://www.pic2009.org/page/m2/14907f45/5784dbd8/2a8a66c1/607ee263/3962042185/VEsE/>

In keeping with President-elect Obama's commitment to changing the way business is done in Washington, we won't accept contributions from corporations, labor unions, political action committees, federally registered lobbyists, non-U.S. citizens and registered foreign agents. We also won't accept individual contributions larger than $50,000.

The need for accountability doesn't begin when the oath of office is taken. It needs to be a part of every step in the process. Our new database is one of the first steps toward a more open and transparent Washington

    Last Call?

    For Immediate Release
    December 10, 2008

Senators Feinstein and Bennett Urge DC Government To Reverse Emergency
    Alcohol Law

WASHINGTON, DCSenator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Joint Congressional
Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), and Senator Bob Bennett, Member
of the JCCIC and Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and
Administration, today urged the Mayor and City Council of Washington, DC to
reverse the emergency legislation passed last week to allow bars and
restaurants to sell alcohol until 5 am during the week of the inauguration.
We have reached out to Mayor Fenty and Council Chairman Vincent Gray
because of our grave concerns about the unintended consequences of this
legislation, said Senator Feinstein. What is clearly meant as a boon to
local businesses may instead create tremendous problems for already
    overwhelmed law enforcement agencies.

Security needs to be the number one priority during the Inaugural
ceremonies and extending the sale of alcohol until 5 a.m. in D.C. will only
divert law enforcement resources away from their primary focus on security
measures and crowd safety, said Senator Bennett.

_The text of the letter follows:_

Dear Mayor Fenty and Council Chairman Gray:

We are writing today to urge that City Council and the Mayor reverse
emergency legislation approved by the Council last week that permits
nightclubs, bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages until 5 a.m.
for four nights during the Inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th
    President.

With projections as high as 4 million people planning to visit the city
during this time period, we are deeply concerned that the plan approved by
the City Council could seriously strain law enforcement resources that need
to be focused on the large crowds and security requirements of the Inaugural
and its impact on the City.

There is great cause for celebration at this historic event. But we believe
that the benefits of this emergency legislation, passed with little public
notice, are far outweighed by its possible consequences.

We understand the pressures you face from the different constituencies in
your city. But we also know the importance of standing firm to ensure the
safety of residents, workers and visitors who will be in Washington, D.C.,
    participating in this historic event.

    Sincerely,
    Robert F. Bennett

    Dear Friend,
The wolves of the left, sensing a new opening with a new administration, are circling.  Dangerous organizations like ACORN and MoveOn.org feel that Obama's victory is theirs as well.  Poisonous figures like George Soros, Louis Farrakhan, and Bill Ayers who have spent their lives trying to tear America down feel newly empowered by the election results.  Israel haters are licking their chops.  Like their bloodthirsty comrades abroad, Islamo-Fascists here at home are ready to step up the stealth jihad they are waging against our universities and other domestic institutions.

I have one thing to say to the leftists who would try to take advantage of America's present vulnerability: not on our watch!

The Freedom Center will not stand by and watch the left advance deeper into government, popular culture, and higher education.  Nor will we allow it to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory in Iraq or hamstring our military in Afghanistan.  The Freedom Center is ready, as it always has been, to carry the fight to our country's enemies.  No other organization engages in hand-to-hand combat with those on the left who would destroy our country from within.  We will continue to play this role in the fight over the American future that lies ahead.
But we can't do it without your help.  T

When you support the Freedom Center, what does your money buy?  A fair question, especially in a time of economic uncertainty, when every dollar counts.  And I'll try to give an answer by telling you briefly about what we have accomplished this past year.

In addition to books and pamphlets and three major daily web sites daily fighting the left's advances in our culture, we staged two Islamo-Fascism Awareness Weeks on 250 college campuses across the country.  Working

Fw: National Mall Will Be Open to the Public on Inauguration Day

NATIONAL MALL WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ON INAUGURATION DAY

WASHINGTON, DC -- In keeping with its pledge to make the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama one of the most open and accessible in history, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced today that, for the first time, the entire length of the National Mall will be opened to the public so that more people than ever before will be able to witness the swearing-in of the President from a vantage point in sight of the Capitol.

The PIC has worked closely with officials from the District of Columbia government, the National Park Service, the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee (AFIC), and the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) to make space at this historic location available to members of the public who are unable to obtain tickets to the swearing-in. Those who come to witness the swearing-in on the Mall will be able to watch and listen to the ceremony on large screens that will be provided by the PIC along the Mall.

"We're grateful to local, federal, and military officials for their efforts to open up the National Mall to Americans who want to participate in this historic occasion," said PIC Executive Director Emmett S. Beliveau. "These arrangements represent our committee's continuing commitment to make next year's historic inauguration as accessible as possible to citizens in Washington, D.C., and across the country."

"This will be an Inauguration for all Americans," said Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty. "And so we are dedicated to opening it up so that people from across the country can gather together in America's front yard. We remain hard at work to ensure the day's festivities are safe and accessible for visitors, residents, and businesses alike."

In the past, the National Mall has been used as a staging area for participants in the inaugural parade. But in response to early indications that more Americans than usual may travel to Washington to join in celebration of our shared values and common purpose, officials have worked tirelessly in recent weeks to relocate the parade staging area. Inaugural parade participants will be announced next week.

In the coming days and weeks, the PIC will release further information about viewing the inauguration from the National Mall and other inaugural events. MR PRESIDENT, HOW DO YOU WANT YOUR 3AM CRISIS: PHONE CALLS OR TEXT MESSAGE?

WE ALL REMEMBER THIS AD DURING THE CAMPAIGN:

AS A SAVVY PERSON MYSELF, I THOUGHT I'D OFFER THE PRESIDENT-ELECT'S TRANSITION TEAM SOME COMMUNICATIONS SOLUTIONS: 3AM CRISIS CALLS ON LAND LINES, AND 'GOVERNING VIA TEXT MESSGES" Joe the Plumber would freak out on this one!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informational_Revolution
Fiang Irving (1997) identified six 'Information Revolutions': writing, printing, mass media, entertainment, the 'toolshed' (which we call 'home' now), and the Information Highway. In this work the term 'information revolution' is used in a narrow sense, to describe trends in communication media.

The following fundamental aspects of the theory of the informational revolution can be given (Veneris 1984, 1990):
    1. The object of economic activities can be conceptualised according to the fundamental distinction between matter, energy, and information. These apply both to the object of each economic activity, as well as within each economic activity or enterprise. For instance, an industry may process matter (e.g. iron) using energy and information (production and process technologies, management, etc).

    2. Information is a factor of production (along with capital, labour, land (economics)), as well as a product sold in the market, that is, a commodity. As such, it acquires use value and exchange value, and therefore a price.
    3. All products have use value, exchange value, and informational value. The latter can be measured by the information content of the product, in terms of innovation, design, etc.

    4. Industries develop information-generating activities, the so-called Research and Development (R&D) functions.
    5. Enterprises, and society at large, develop the information control and processing functions, in the form of management structures; these are also called "white-collar workers", "bureaucracy", "managerial functions", etc.
    6. Labour can be classified according to the object of labour, into information labour and non-information labour.
    7. Information activities constitute a large, new economic sector, the information sector along with the traditional primary sector, secondary sector, and tertiary sector, according to the three-sector hypothesis. These should be restated because they are based on the ambiguous definitions made by Colin Clark (1940), who included in the tertiary sector what was not included in the primary (agriculture, forestry, etc.) and secondary (manufacturing) sectors. The quaternary sector and the quinary sector of the economy attempt to classify these activities, but they are not based on a clear conceptual scheme, although the latter is considered by some as equivalent with the information sector [1].

    8. From a strategic point of view, sectors can be defined as information sector, means of production, means of consumption, thus extending the classical Ricardo-Marx model of the Capitalist mode of production (see Influences on Karl Marx). Marx stressed in many occasions the role of the "intellectual element" in production, but failed to find a place for it into his model.
    9. Innovations are the result of the production of new information, as new products, new methods of production, patents, etc. Their diffusion manifests saturation effects (related term: market saturation), following certain cyclical patterns and creating "economic waves", also referred to as "business cycles". There are various types of waves, such as Kondratiev( 54 years), Kuznets (18 years), Juglar (9 years) and Kitchin (about 4 years)(see also Joseph Schumpeter) distinguished by their nature, duration, and, thus, economic impact.

    10. Innovations cause structural-sectoral shifts in the economy, which can be smooth or can create crisis and renewal, a process which Joseph Schumpeter called vividly "creative destruction".
The information revolution is not a stage of capitalist development per se, since it can occur under non-capitalist conditions. In a similar manner, the industrial revolution took place in countries with various social and political systems.

WHITE HOUSE G2O IS IN TOWN!

Functions play a fundamental role in all areas of Government. On J20 almost every grand structure in the City will have a social/political function. I am on my way to one such building. I am standing under the China Town Arch at 7th and H Streets NW. Two blocks away from here, sitting at a table with 19 other G20 Leaders in The National Building Museum is "Hu Jintao the Chinese President of the People's Republic of China. I visited this location when Sen. Hillary Clinton masterfully took control of the hall, relaxed and at ease to give her official concession speech on a hot summer day. It was very hard to hear with the echo in the Hall, but you made out her good lines such as '18 million cracks in the ceiling.' I recall the beauty of the red brick exterior, the monumentally-scaled Palazzo Farnese-completed to Michelangelo’s specifications in 1589(nmb.org). The buildings interior designs was inspired by two Roman palaces, a style characteristic adopted by her former competitor. The McCain Campaign would never consider a townhall meeting in this building because it would look 'scripted'. But on this day, in this building, all Leaders speeches will be just that-well written, staged, and scripted. The Bush administration said on Wednesday a weekend meeting of Group of 20 leaders should be able to identify some specific measures for calming anxious financial markets and said it was timely for them to meet now. They chose the suitably grand space for Washington’s social and political functions to accomplish that. In this building, certain speech are given because sometimes your need more thab natural so every word of the G20 leaders speech — every word — will be crafted carefully to convey some meaning of the event to the World. Hillary wanted to convey party unity. We expect that leaders will want to come to an agreement on an action plan identifying specific implementation measures," said Dan Price, assistant to the president for International Economic Affairs, at a White House.

    Dear D,

Just 206 votes. That's the difference separating Al Franken and Norm Coleman in the Minnesota Senate race -- 206 votes out of about 3 million cast.

In the coming days, Minnesota officials will carefully count every vote to make sure they get the most accurate count possible. But once again, Republicans want to interfere any way they can with the vote-counting. They're setting up legal challenges and questioning the voting officials' integrity.

This time we're ready. The Franken Campaign is working hard to make sure every vote is counted -- but they need our help. Al Franken needs to keep his campaign active to stop the Republican attacks and make Minnesotans' voices are heard.

Help make sure this important election is decided fairly -- contribute today to Al Franken's campaign.

The people of Minnesota have spoken, and I don't know who will end up winning the final count. But I do know that if Republicans succeed in stopping this count prematurely, we'll lose the chance at having a great fighter for Minnesota's families join me in the Senate.

Al Franken is a good friend who will give us a stronger and more effective Democratic majority in Congress. It's up to us to make sure he has what he needs to fight back against Republican attacks and make sure every vote is counted.

Help make sure every vote in Minnesota counts -- contribute right now to the Franken Campaign!

MAYOR BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES NEW INCENTIVE / DISINCENTIVE PROGRAM TO REACH GOAL OF GREEN TAXI FLEET

Congressman Nadler and Council Member Yassky Introducing Federal and City Legislation to Increase the City's Ability to Enforce use of Green Taxis

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced a series of initiatives to increase the use of fuel efficient and environmentally friendly taxicabs, through new financial incentives and legislative initiatives.  The Mayor's announcement follows a recent decision in Federal District Court that prohibited the City from mandating the use of cleaner, more fuel efficient taxicabs. The new program announced today offers financial incentives for taxi fleet owners to purchase fuel efficient vehicles and financial disincentives for the continue use of less efficient vehicles. The Mayor was joined at the announcement by Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) Chairman Matthew W. Daus, Council Member David Yassky, Richard Kassel of the Natural Resources Defense Council, Meir Yakuel, Co-Owner of the Yakuel Taxi Garage where the announcement was made, and Rati Sharma, a taxicab driver.
"Last month, we hit a speed bump in our efforts to turn New York City's yellow cabs green when the courts upheld an archaic law, preventing us from reducing greenhouse gases and improving air quality," said Mayor Bloomberg.  "But one of the reasons we have been so successful over the last seven years is we do not let obstacles stop us from achieving our goals.  By offering incentives that will encourage more taxi fleet owners to purchase hybrids, we have found another avenue to reach our goal of greening our yellow cabs, improving our air quality, and reducing our carbon emissions.  I'm pleased that Congressman Nadler and Council Member Yassky are partnering with us on the legislative front, and I want to thank them for their support."
"The recent federal court decision to block the greening of New York City's taxis is, I believe, not in keeping with the original spirit of federal environmental legislation," said Rep. Nadler.  "Fuel efficient taxis don't simply represent a pie-in-the-sky futuristic luxury for New Yorkers but a present-day necessity which will produce a meaningful reduction in our city's carbon emissions.  Mayor Bloomberg's leadership on this issue warrants our support.  I intend to introduce legislation in Congress to amend federal law - specifically the Clean Air Act and the Energy Policy and Conservation Act - in order to give states and localities the discretion to set stronger standards in exactly these types of circumstances.  Green taxis will be a win-win scenario for everybody."
"Our goal from the beginning was to get fuel efficient taxis on the road using whatever appropriate methods required to achieve our goal," said TLC Commissioner Daus.  "The new program will incentivize the purchase of cleaner vehicles, while ensuring taxi drivers are not penalized because a taxicab owner is reluctant to make the wiser purchase of a hybrid vehicle.  The 1,551 hybrid taxicabs already on the road have saved their drivers lots of money, while contributing to cleaner air.  This incentive package will help us take these advances to the next level, and help our city become a cleaner, healthier place."
"Greening the New York City taxi fleet is an absolute no-brainer," said Council Member Yassky.  "When we announced a green taxis rule earlier this year, New York instantly became a national leader in sustainability. It is astonishing and sad that the taxi industry is still putting up roadblocks."
"Because they save drivers money, cut pollution on our sidewalks, and reduce our dependence on oil, hybrid taxis are a win-win-win for New York City," said Richard Kassel, director of the Natural Resources Defense Council's Clean Fuels and Vehicles Project.  "It's time for Washington to update its rules so the City's hybrid taxi program can move forward."
Individual taxi owners have already begun to voluntarily upgrade to fuel efficient vehicles because of the substantial fuel cost savings.  The program unveiled today targets the fleet owners, who do not pay fuel costs and comprise approximately 25% of taxicabs in New York City.
    Incentives and Disincentives
The purpose of the incentive and disincentive program is to encourage fleet owners to purchase fuel efficient cars, while holding drivers harmless for the decision of the fleet owners.
The TLC regulates "lease caps," the amount a fleet or taxi owner may charge for the use of a taxicab or medallion license.
The incentive program will allow fleet owners to increase the lease cap fee charged to drivers in fuel efficient vehicles by $3 per shift, which will offset the increased cost of purchasing a fuel efficient vehicle.  The driver, while paying the increased lease cap fee, will still see significant savings due to the reduced fuel costs, which he or she pays.  Taxicab drivers in fuel efficient vehicles achieve an average fuel savings of at least $15 per shift, which adds up to about $5,000 a year.
The incentive will generate approximately $2,000 per year, per vehicle for fleet owners.
To further incentivize the use of fuel efficient taxicabs, the TLC will propose to decrease the lease cap fee an owner can charge a driver by $12 per shift if the vehicle is a Crown Victoria or another non-fuel efficient vehicle, costing fleet owners approximately $8,500 per year, per vehicle.
The TLC will strictly enforce taxi leases to ensure drivers are not charged any additional fees by fleet owners.
The new lease caps will affect all taxicabs that are leased out for shift work, except accessible vehicles.
The new regulations will be presented for public hearing and vote at an upcoming public meeting of the TLC and phase-in options will be considered.
    Legislation
Congressman Nadler will sponsor legislation supported by the City that will amend the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to, at the very least, allow local governments to set fuel efficiency standards for the for-hire vehicles they license.
Council Member Yassky will explore City Council legislation that will examine reducing the required retirement age for Crown Victoria taxicabs and increasing the required retirement age for fuel efficient vehicles to further incentivize the use of fuel efficient vehicles.
    Legal Strategy
The City will not appeal the decision made last month by Judge Paul A. Crotty in the United States Southern District.
In July, the City filed an amicus brief in the appeal of Green Mountain v. Vermont.  Later this month, the City will also file an amicus brief in California v. EPA.  The outcome in these cases could put to rest the ability of states and localities to set more stringent standards for passenger cars on their streets.  The States of California, New York, and Vermont along, with several environmental groups, are all parties in these cases.
Approximately 13,000 yellow taxicabs operate in New York City everyday, including 1,551 fuel efficient taxicabs.

I AM ON PRESIDENT LINCOLN'S GUEST LIST....MIND YOU!

As I recall my recent White House visit on the occasion of Black History Month. I stumbled across this interesting webpage dedicated to the life of President Lincoln. Read on...

For the first time under President Lincoln, black Americans came to the White House for social occasions. Historians James G. Randall and Richard N. Current observed: "At his New Year's Day reception in 1864 'four colored men, of genteel exterior and with the manners of gentlemen, joined in the throng that crowded the Executive Mansion, and were presented to the President of the United States,' as the Washington Morning Chronicle reported the unprecedented news. There was no scene. 'We are neither amalgamationists nor advocates of the leveling of all social distinctions,' the Chronicle commented; 'but we rejoice that we have a President who is a democrat by fact as well as by nature.'"
